Moving Forward with online shopping
Thursday, July 9th, 2009Retail giant Debenhams has recently chose to add customer ratings as well as reviews to its online shop in a bid to enhance its customers shopping experience and boost sales. Debenhams is creating a whole new section to the website which will feature the most popular products that fellow online shoppers have rated and reviewed. The idea is to essential create a real time best sellers list from actual customers. The focus has also been put on Debenhams email newsletters which will feature information of the new review section for its previous online customers.
Bazaarvoices (the name of the social commerce tool) is intended to add value to the customers shopping experience and help Debenhams to improve their current system to help make better usability for its internet customer base. The Senior Web Development manage at Debenhams commented that their previous campaigns of using authentic customer content was received well in their email campaigns and should continue to perform well on the Debenhams website.
A lot of websites already follow this customer review trend (sites such as UrbanJeans who specialise in g star jacket) but very few of the big retail giants such as Debenhams currently employ this technique. It allows customers to get a real persons opinion on products instead of having to rely on what the brand says. The use of customer reviews could also be a ploy to reduce returns as well as increasing conversion rates.
